Appointment on basis of merit urged

HYDERABAD, July 18: The Sindh Democratic Forum (SDF), a think tank representing civil society, has welcomed Sindh government’s decision to provide 56,000 jobs in public sector, saying it will provide job opportunities to the unemployed youth and help improve efficiency of government organisations.

However, the SDF urged the government to ensure that the appointments were made in a transparent manner and purely on the basis of merit.

It said that that the practice of making appointments by neglecting merit and on the basis of favouritism by previous regimes was one of the root causes of destruction of service delivery to the people.—Bureau
