Diya Club on course to clinch championship

By Our Sports Reporter

LAHORE, July 18: Karachi's Diya Club took a giant step towards winning the National Women Club Championship when they played a goalless draw with highly-fancied Lahore’s WP Club at Punjab Stadium on Friday.

The draw helped Diya to lead the Super-four table on goal counts. Both Diya and WP have four points each but Diya lead the table on better goal difference. Diya scored four goals while WP has two.

The second match of the day saw Vehari United go down fighting 1-0 to Rawalpindi's Young Rising Star. Midfielder Malaika Noor hit the back of the net from penalty-mark leaving Vehari's keeper stranded.

There will be no match on Saturday and the event will resume on Sunday with fifth and sixth match of the stage.

Sunday’s fixtures:

Burewala’s Vehari United v Lahore's WP Club at 4 pm, Karachi’s Diya Club v Rawalpindi's Young Rising Star Club at 5.30 pm.
