Two security men, 2 ‘bombers’ killed near Mohmand

By Ali Hazrat Bacha

PESHAWAR, Nov 15: At least five people, including two members of law-enforcement agencies and two suspected suicide bombers, were killed in different areas of Peshawar and Charsadda adjacent to the Mohmand region.

Security forces continued their operation in some villages and other areas of Peshawar and Charsada districts bordering the agency. A suspected suicide bomber was arrested in Michini areas, sources said.

A subedar of the Frontier Constabulary, Lal Khan, was killed and another received injuries when Taliban militants attacked with rockets the Parchavi checkpoint in Michni in the outskirts of the provincial capital.

In another incident, a mortar shell hit the house of a policeman, Ilyas, in Sarkhanai village, killing him and badly injuring his wife Nausheen. She was taken to the Lady Reading Hospital.

The incident caused unrest among the people and emotionally-charged villagers took out a procession. They placed the body of the policeman on the Charsadda-Peshawar road in Shah Alam area and blocked the road for over an hour.

The demonstrators chanted slogans against the government for its failure to restore law and order and ensure protection of lives and property of the people. They were dispersed after the intervention of the tribal elders.

CURFEW: Curfew remained imposed in Warsak, Chagharmati, Patwar and Mulagori areas for the fifth consecutive day. Police have been making appeal to the villagers not to flout curfew restrictions.

Schools, shops, government offices and offices of some private organisations remained closed as security forces patrolled these areas to keep a watch on militants fleeing from the operation area of Michini and Mohmand regions.

People displaced by fighting in various villages of Michini and Mohmand Agency continued to pour into Peshawar and Charssada. The people complained of facing serious difficulties because of non-presence of transport.

Flocks of people were seen heading to Peshawar and Charsadda by foot. Some people used boats to cross river to reach Peshawar.

Our Charsadda correspondent adds: A rocket fell in a house in Dalazak village, killing Sabirullah and injuring Ashfaq, Nayaab and three unidentified people.

Police sources said that four suspected militants were arrested during a search operation in areas of Noorani Korona, Rashkai and Juma Khan Korona.

An unannounced curfew was imposed for one hour at 4pm in Shabqadar and shopkeepers were forced to close their shops till 5pm.
