REFLECTION: It Is Never Too Late!

By Dania Nawaz

Being a girl, I never indulged in smoking as I thought of it as a harmful habit. However, I never thought the same way about chalia and gutka.

When I read about chhalia and gutka, I came to know about their harmful effects. I was shocked to read that it can be a risk for life. I used to have chhalia packets with me at school and at home. However, after reading about their harmful consequences, a sense of health consciousness awoke in me. I threw away the chhalia packets while continuously thinking about how I will survive without them. It was very difficult for me. But I found my anti-drug!

Writing articles is my passion. Now, whenever I have free time, I start writing articles. At other times, when I think about chhalia, I rush to my room and do glass painting which is also my hobby. I spend my pocket money on buying informative books and game CDs. When my friends ask me to eat chhalia, I just smile and refuse. Also, I help my mom in the kitchen and in setting up my wardrobe.

For those who think that substances affect your personal lives only, they don’t. Your life is connected to many other lives. It is never too late to quit drugs!
